nauvoo trip-Sept 12, 2008

Today after our plane was delayed a bit we finally got on the bus and went to lunch. In the meantime we had to go back to the airport to pickup one more lady. The bus driver and myself left everybody else at Wendys while we went and got the lady coming in later. After we got the lady then we picked everybody else up and we went to the community of christ church in Independance. They changed there name a few years ago but they are the start of the re-organized church. They changed the name because as we all know everybody gets the two mixed up. It is interesting because they do believe some of the same things with Joseph Smith as we do. They read the book of mormon as well but there is several sections that is left out. They have the priesthood but only certain men that are called and they also give women the priesthood. They believe marriage is until death do us part. They have men go out on missions not young men like we do. So it is interesting that they believe some things and not others. After that we went to Gates barbeque for dinner. That was really good.

We then went on to the LDS visitors center. That is pretty incredible. I think that is one of the best ones that I have seen. I was going to put pictures on but you will have to wait until I get home because I forgot the cord to download. This may be my last blog until I get home because they tell me when we get down to Nauvoo we won't have cell service or wi-fi. In the visitors center they have actual buildings and people depicting the work that was going on. One part that was really cool was the big picutre of the world with all of the book of mormons in different languages. When you look at the cristus they say a few words and then the missionaries sing a song after. It is wonderful. It is amazing the difference in the community of christ and the lds just with the spirit. The other thing that I thought was interesting is we were asking if they believed in anything after death and the person said that there was nothing that he knew about. We got that answer a couple of times. Anyways I need to get ready to get out of here. I have to go get breakast and get my bags down stairs. Today we are going to FarWest and Adam On Di Amen. We will pick up lunch at subway and then we will eat it down at Adam on di ahmen and tonight we will have dinner on the Mississippi Queen.

We have some people on the tour with family in Texas and so they are a little bit nervous. The news is saying that we will have more rain today and there could be flash flooding. Just before we got to the visitors center last night they were telling us it was a good thing that we didnt' get there earlier because they had the tornado warning siren go off and had to put everybody in the basement. It was interesting because it was raining hard but there was no wind. I guess I always thought you had to have wind to get a tornado. Nothing happened so I guess we were lucky. I will do some more when I get a chance. If I can find internet down further then I will post. Elder Rector and his wife are the neatest people that I have ever met. He is a lot of fun to be out with. He is 84 years old and not afraid to tell you that. He is a great man.

Sounds like you are having a lot of fun! I wish I was there with you. I loved being back in Nauvoo, etc when we went to get my younger brother from his mission.
