It has been a few weeks since I have posted. Alex is doing great. He is loving his mission and he is starting to track in the MTC. He says since he is a shy as he is that this is a difficult thing for him to do and that he needs to work on it. It doesn't surprise me because he has always been a little bit shy. I'm just glad that he is working on it. I think this will be one of the hardest things in his mission.
He said he loved Thanksgiving this year. Elder Nielsen gave a devotional at the MTC and then after they ate and then did service. He said that it was the best Thanksgiving he has ever had. It makes me feel wonderful that he is loving his mission that much. I am thrilled that this is where he wants to be.
I got on an email distribution list recently that is mom's of missionaries and mom's of returned missionaries. I finally found a mom on the site that her son is going to Albania as well. He is Elder Brown who is in the MTC with Alex. I have heard wonderful things about this Elder and she knew all about Alex as well. It was fun to be able to start emailing her back and forth. I gave her my phone number and I hope that she will contact me and we can get to know each other better.
We don't get too much from Alex in his letters they are usually short but he does take the time to send written letters to his grandma's as well and Wednesday is the day that he has to get everything done for the week and so he is pressed for time and so I just feel fortunate that I do get a weekly email from him. I wrote him tonight and told him that is the highlight of my week to receive the email. Pretty pathetic huh?
It is kind of bitter/sweet right now. My nephew leaves the MTC tomorrow to go on to South Dakota to start serving there. It will be exciting and fun to hear about the experiences once he gets into the mission field. I thought this might discourage Alex a bit since Brandon went into the MTC after him and will leave for the mission field before Alex leaves the MTC but it doesn't seem that it has affected Alex too much.
Alex tells me that he already loves the people of Albania. They have met some people in the area as they have been in the MTC that are from Albania and they have been teaching some of these people and so it gives him great opportunity before he actually gets out into the field. He is now reading his scriptures in Albanian and praying in Albanian and speaking most of the time in Albanian. It sounds as if things are going great. What a testimony this is with the gift of tongues. It is amazing what can happen with the Lord's help. I love Alex and I am so proud of him for the work that he is doing. I thrilled that it seems he is working hard and having the time of his life.
That's it for now.
